Small Acts, Big Impact — “Bagging” Our Love for the Planet

Though awareness of recycling and environmental action is growing, the root cause of excessive waste often lies in our own habits of overconsumption. We manage trash, but overlook the pollution it causes. We recycle, yet rarely question why we generate so much waste to begin with.

Plastic pollution has seriously harmed our oceans. We frequently hear distressing news: hermit crabs losing their homes, sea turtles injured by straws lodged in their nostrils, and even worse, many sea turtles and other marine creatures dying after mistaking floating plastic bags for jellyfish and ingesting them. These tragic consequences are a call to action — not just for sympathy, but for real change. Reducing waste at the source is the only way to allow ecosystems to recover.

In recent years, as environmental awareness has grown, plastic reduction initiatives have spread like wildfire. In response, Shih Wei Navigation is proud to support the “Liuqiu Ecocup” environmental initiative on Xiaoliuqiu. We donated a total of 559 reusable bags, which were delivered and placed in “Liu Chuan boxes” across the island for residents and visitors to use freely— giving the bags new life and marking a meaningful first step toward plastic reduction.

Today, on World Sea Turtle Day, let’s stop feeding turtles plastic. Instead, let’s “bag” our love and protect the oceans they call home.
