Shih Wei Navigation Co., LTD Joins the Protecting Blue Whales and Blue Skies Incentive Program and Receives Blue Sky Recognition

In our fast-paced lives, we often remind ourselves to slow down and appreciate the beauty of our surroundings. Yet, we sometimes forget that in the deep blue sea, countless marine lives are also hoping we would slow down—so they can swim freely and peacefully in the warm waters.

In 2001, a well-known whale named Blade Runner was severely injured by a ship’s propeller, leaving permanent scars. Not every whale is as lucky as Blade Runner. Since 2023, Shih Wei has actively participated in the Protecting Blue Whales and Blue Skies Program, demonstrating our commitment to marine life conservation and our determination to mitigate climate change through tangible action.

The Protecting Blue Whales and Blue Skies Program is a voluntary initiative jointly promoted by multiple U.S. federal and local agencies, environmental organizations, and foundations. It encourages vessels traveling through Southern California and the San Francisco Bay Area to reduce their speed to 10 knots or less. In 2023, with the consent of the Charterers, our vessel MV Indigo SW joined the program and operated at reduced speeds. That year, we received the Blue Sky recognition (35% or higher compliance) from the Blue Whales and Blue Skies Program. In 2024, we further increased our slow-speed operation rate to 39%. We are committed to continuing this initiative and striving for even higher compliance in the future.

Slowing down not only reduces pollution and the risk of vessel collisions but also enhances the safety of marine life. Our participation in this program represents not only Shih Wei’s move toward green shipping, but also our promise to protect marine ecosystems. As humanity continues to progress, we aim to minimize environmental harm and foster a path of sustainable coexistence. Let us slow down—and walk this journey together.
