The Journey of a Maritime Professional: Chief Officer Ma, Ya Shen's Path to Becoming a Model Worker
Shipping plays a crucial role in Taiwan, an island nation surrounded by the sea, making the cultivation of exceptional maritime talent one of Shih Wei Navigation’s primary missions. This year, Chief Officer Ma, Ya Shen, recognized as a National Model Worker, stands out as a stellar member of our Seafarer Development Program.
C/O Ma, Ya Shen graduated in 2015 from the Industry-Academia Cooperation Program, a collaboration between Shih Wei Navigation and National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology. After graduation, he immediately joined the fleet, starting as a deck cadet and diligently applying his knowledge in real-world operations. He has now been with us for nearly a decade. During his time onboard, C/O Ma not only navigated the global challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic but also faced the personal tragedy of losing his father. Yet, these hardships did not diminish his passion for the sea. As the pillar of his family, he took care of his personal matters before quickly returning to serve onboard.
C/O Ma exhibits a level of maturity and competence beyond his age. The older vessel(s), under his care, have been meticulously managed through close collaboration with the ship Master(s), earning him widespread praise for his skills. His approachable and cheerful nature has made him a role model among his crewmates. His recognition as a National Model Worker underscores the significance of the company’s commitment to nurturing maritime education from the ground up.
Finally, we extend our gratitude to the Chinese Federation of Labour for this honor and offer heartfelt congratulations to C/O Ma, Ya Shen on this prestigious recognition. We also encourage all our fellow co-workers to follow his example and continue striving for excellence in their respective roles.
